Festival Feels

With the nights staying lighter, the weather becoming warmer, flowers becoming brighter it can only mean that summer is just around the corner, which also means that its almost festival season.

Im sure that if your planning on going to a festival this summer you have already had it booked for months or if your like me and haven’t got anything booked yet but planning on attending one your just waiting to book your ticket nearer to the date.

Festivals are like a mini break away from home, except your definitely not guaranteed the nice weather and you definitely don’t have a luxury hotel to sleep in. Instead your cooped up in a tent while its pouring it down with rain and you haven’t been able to shower for 3 days (sounds delightful doesn’t it). But this is all part of the fun of festivals. Although this is probably some peoples idea of their worst nightmare I personally love it. It is also a makeup artists dream.

While the camping in the mud and the disgusting toilettes don’t sound all that glamorous festivals have somehow managed to gain a status for some of the most out there fashions and makeup looks of the summer. Its a way for people to dress up however they like and really express them selves with their take on the stereotypical festival looks that they wouldn’t often be able to wear during day to day life. Particularly for the first day at least when you have travelled from home where you can take the time to get yourself glammed up and ready with the perfect hair and makeup is when its most important that you show off your take on the festival look. As the weekend goes on however and you have no choice but to get ready in a tent with not all of your beloved products available to you then everyone’s looks begins to decline. Unless of course your attending a festival that doesn’t involve camping, like parklife in Manchester where you can go home every night.

As a makeup artist these festivals are perfect as you get people wanting their makeup done everyday of the weekend instead of just the one. Festivals allow makeup artist and even hair stylist to create such out there style and really let their creativeness to flow with things from glitter and jewels to candy buns and braids. We are able to use all sorts of vibrant colours as appose to the usual brown and black smokey eyes. You can go as big or as subtle as you like and even give the most simple of makeup looks that festival feel.

Recently I decided to practice a festival look on a friend. I knew I wanted to use bright pinks and glitter so searched for some festival inspiration on google. I chose the photo I wanted to re create and got to work creating it in my own way. I make a bright pink winged eye with purple underneath. I gave the skin a warm and highlighted glow with a natural pink lip. Then the fun began, I used a colourful chunky glitter under the eyes to create a glitter tears effect. I then decided that there was something missing so I used a white gel eyeliner and put small white dots all along the tops of the brows. It may have taken a while to create but I have to say its one of my favourite looks I have done so far and will definitely be creating more before the festivals begin.
